The Oleweus Bullying Prevention Program
As reported by the Office for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention , after several bullied children committed suicide, an intervention program was implemented in the 1980s by researcher, Dan Olweus, Ph.D. in Norway and Sweden. The model, known as the Oleweus Bullying Prevention Program, involved interventions at multiple levels, and included rules against bullying and involvement of the teachers and the parents, as well as direct interventions with both the bullies and the victims. This has been a highly successful intervention model indicating that bullying can be reduced dramatically when there are serious efforts to make an overall shift in awareness, rules and expectations.
